For labs involved in COVID-19 research and testing, supplies, staff, and time can be extremely scarce and yet speed and efficiency are paramount in this battle. This includes the very time consuming and labor-intensive process of preparing Viral Transport Media (VTM) tubes; aliquoting/repeat pipetting 3 mL of VTM into hundreds of thousands of 15 mL tubes.
Isabel Ott, a COVID response Lab Tech at Yale New Haven Hospital performs this tedious task and sought out a pipet controller that would help her reduce the manual strain and accelerate the process in a cost-efficient way.
“The ali-Q™2 has been incredibly useful for preparing tubes of virus transport medium to supplement Yale New Haven Hospital’s SARS-CoV-2 testing efforts. Compatible serological pipette tips are broadly available, which helps us avoid ordering delays for specialized tips, and allow us to work directly from 1 liter bottles without having to transfer media into a secondary containers, reducing the potential for contamination.”
The ali-Q™2 helps speed up this task, and others like it, by allowing people to perform multidispenses semi-automatically with the push of the unique aliquoting button. It gives an accurate dispense each time without the need to look at the lines on the serological pipet. Large volume pipets, such as the 50 mL Wobble-not, can be used for doing many aliquots quickly. VistaLab is proud to see the ali-Q 2 help laboratory professionals as they tirelessly work to help and protect others.
